Competency-Based Interview Questions Effective Recruitment Course
The following are a list of questions you might use during an interview to help assess a candidate:
Management and Team Leadership Competencies:
- Please describe for me a time when you brought together a team for a new goal?
- Tell me about the most difficult relationship you have had with a team member. What was the cause of the problem and what did you do to improve the situation?
- When you last went on holiday, what did you do before you went away to organise your work and ensure that your customers did not notice a gap in their service?
Sales Competencies:
- Please give an example of when you have dealt with sales to a key account. How did you manage the sales process?
- Give me an example of a large contract that you have taken the lead in negotiating. What did you do to achieve agreement?
- Would you describe a scenario when you have been required to step up to take on a lead sales role with a new customer.
Performance Driven Competencies:
- Tell me about the most difficult obstacle you have had to overcome to achieve a personal goal. What was the nature of the obstacle and what did you do?
- Describe a situation when you have worked your hardest to achieve a worthwhile goal. What drove you to achieve this goal? What did you do?
Decision Making Competencies:
- Describe an example of when have been required to find a solution to a difficult processing dilemma. or where a number of competing causes and solution exist. How did to establish the optimal solution?
- What is the biggest strategic decision you made last year? What alternatives did you consider? How did you incorporate the opinion of others? Why did you do it that way?
Technical Competencies:
- In what situation have you acted as an expert in a particular field to resolve a technical problem?
- Describe a specific action you have taken to improve your standing as an expert?
Creative Thinking Competencies:
- Describe a situation when you have been the spark behind a new project idea. What was the idea and what did you do to move the project from concept to implementation?
- Can you think of a recent sales problem in which old solutions wouldn’t work and the barriers to entry where thought to be too high by others? How did you solve the problem?
- Can you tell me about a new business idea that you have had in the last twelve months? What did you do to ensure this idea became reality?
